Mariana Jardim and Diane Michaud – Faculty Liaisons, Teaching, Learning and Technology, Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation

Prerequisite: Attended the Getting Started: Building a Portal Course workshop or have equivalent proficiency using Blackboard (i.e., can create, edit and delete menu items and upload files).

Please bring your own laptop to this session.

For those who have experience setting up their Portal course, this hands-on session will dive deeper into course customization. Guided by usability and pedagogical principles we will demonstrate course design techniques, and participants will have the opportunity to practice the techniques that best support student learning and their course goals.

Participants in this workshop will be able to:

  • Identify aspects of online course structure that could be improved
  • Structure their Portal course according to usability principles and recommended practices
  • Apply course design approaches that may increase student engagement by incorporating teaching presence
  • Integrate multimedia into course content
