Presented by the Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre (RGASC), UTM
Online (Teams)
As students increasingly rely on generative AI for idea generation, writing, and problem-solving, the distribution of cognitive effort in learning is changing. Drawing on research in distributed cognition and metacognition, this session examines AI as both a shortcut and a potential cognitive amplifier. We will discuss evidence-based strategies for scaffolding metacognitive awareness, fostering deeper engagement, and designing learning activities that make thinking processes explicit. Participants will leave with pedagogical approaches for helping students balance efficiency with meaningful cognitive effort in an AI-rich environment.
In-person option on September 22, 1pm-2pm
