Quercus Course Reviews
What is a Quercus Course Review?
The CTSI Quercus Course Review (QCR) service provides instructors with formative feedback on how they use Quercus in their courses to support teaching and learning.
At an instructor’s request, a CTSI or divisional Educational Developer/Technologist will review how Quercus is being used in a specific course and share considerations to enhance future course design and pedagogical practices.
The QCR service is best suited for instructors who have prior experience using Quercus and are looking for new ways to align their course site with teaching and learning goals.
How the Process Works
The QCR process occurs in three stages over three to four weeks:
- Pre‑Review Meeting (25 minutes): Instructor and reviewer(s) meet to determine the focus of the review.
- Review (60 minutes): Reviewer(s) examine the Quercus course site.
- Post‑Review Meeting (50 minutes): Instructor and reviewer(s) discuss observations and identify next steps.
To ensure meaningful feedback, your Quercus course should be “student‑ready” at the time of review.
Service Details and Considerations
- The QCR service is designed to support academic courses listed in ROSI.
- A QCR is not an observation of a synchronous class session. If you are looking for feedback on live teaching, refer to Teaching Observations.
- A QCR is not a technical help session. For urgent issues or technical support related to Quercus and the Academic Toolbox, contact your divisional educational technology support team or email q.help@utoronto.ca.
- Academic units cannot request a QCR as part of a summative teaching evaluation process. CTSI will not review Quercus courses for tenure, continuing status, or job application purposes.
- Please submit one request per academic year. Observations from one review are often applicable across multiple courses.
