Designing an interactive activity or simulation used to mean weeks of build time before an instructor could see whether it worked. Generative AI tools now let instructors sketch, test, and revise interactive learning experiences in a fraction of that time. This hands-on session walks through a rapid prototyping workflow for active learning activities and simulations, using AI tools to move quickly from a learning goal to a working draft that students can try. Participants will prototype an interactive activity or simulation for their own course, evaluate it against core active learning and Universal Design for Learning principles, and leave with a concrete draft plus a repeatable process for iterating on it. No prior design or coding experience is required.

Session Objectives:

Identify AI tools suited to rapidly prototyping interactive learning activities and simulations
Use an AI tool to generate a working prototype of an active learning activity or simulation aligned to a specific learning goal
Evaluate a prototype against active learning and Universal Design for Learning principles
Outline next steps for refining and piloting the prototype in an upcoming course
