Open Educational Resources can reduce your students’ costs while expanding access to high-quality materials. In this hands-on workshop, you will develop practical skills to find, evaluate, adapt, and properly license OER for your teaching. You will discover where to locate OER (open textbooks, simulations, lab materials, lesson plans, and more), how to interpret Creative Commons licenses to use materials legally and ethically, and how to integrate OER into your course—whether by adopting existing resources, adapting them to your pedagogical goals, or contributing to the OER ecosystem.
As a model of this commitment, CTSI is now sharing all 7 of its self-paced learning programs through eCampusOntario’s Open Library, making our professional learning resources freely available to educators across the province and beyond. This workshop will show you how to do the same.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
• define OER and distinguish it from free but restricted materials;
• navigate Creative Commons licenses and apply them correctly;
• locate and evaluate OER for your discipline and course level;
• properly attribute open resources across formats;
• adapt or remix OER while respecting intellectual property; and
• develop a concrete plan for adopting, adapting, or creating OER in your teaching.
No prior OER experience required.
