September 21 @ 1:10 pm - 2:30 pm EDT
Facilitators:
Michal Kasprzak, Team Lead, Educational Developers, CTSI
Cristina D’Amico, Educational Developer, CTSI
Tutorials and labs are essential spaces where students actively engage with course concepts, skills, and communities of learning. This session focuses on the pedagogical planning of tutorials and labs, exploring how instructors can work with Teaching Assistants (TAs) to align activities with course learning outcomes, create meaningful learning experiences, and support student engagement. Participants will develop practical approaches for integrating tutorials and labs into an intentional course design framework.
By the end of this session, participants should be able to: align tutorial and lab activities with course learning outcomes; identify effective roles for TAs in supporting student learning; design engaging tutorial and lab structures that promote active learning; and integrate lectures, tutorials, labs, and assessments into a coherent learning experience.
