Course Evaluation Community of Practitioners

The 2023 Course Evaluation Institute (CEI)

In September 2023, CTSI hosted a two-day CEI conference with the theme “Emerging Trends in Course Evaluations”.

The CEI is an invitation-only conference for professionals working in the space of course evaluations in the higher education sector, developed in partnership between the University of Toronto and Explorance. This conference brought together 62 policymakers, researchers, educators, and practitioners across 22 institutions in Canada and the U.S.A. to explore and discuss the multifaceted aspects of course evaluations and their impact on higher education institutions.

The CEI serves as a platform for sharing innovative ideas, best practices, and research findings related to course evaluations, with a focus on promoting excellence in teaching and learning and institutional effectiveness. The 2023 CEI delivered 11.4 hours of content on course evaluations over two days (in formats such as podium presentations, interactive workshops and panel discussions) in six tracks, including:

  1. Up Your Game of Data Visualization
  2. Establishing the Reliability and Validity of Course Evaluation Instruments
  3. Qualitative Analysis of Student Comments
  4. Applying Insights from Course Evaluations to Improve Institutional Effectiveness
  5. Leveraging Technology for Efficient Evaluation Processes
  6. Course Evaluations in the Framework of EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity and Accessibility)
