Description:
Even the most motivated students can feel discouraged, distracted, or disengaged from their courses when faced with overwhelming workloads, a lack of connection to the course and its content, or any number of other obstacles. As instructors, we have the power to shape the learning environment in ways that not only re-engage these students but also sustain their motivation throughout the course. By early on, we can create a classroom atmosphere where all students feel empowered to succeed.

This workshop will focus on practical ways to design courses and adopt teaching practices that foster both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Topics will include easy early wins, encouraging good habits, assessment feedback, classroom culture, and personalizing large courses to each students' needs. Participants will develop their own strategies to help students connect with the material, maintain focus, and stay resilient in the face of challenges. Together, we’ll explore how to design courses that inspire students to not just complete the work but to truly engage with their learning journey.
Our faculty facilitators in this lunch series have completed 25 modules and earned the Certificate in Effective University Instruction offered by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) in partnership with CTSI. Learn more about the ACUE Lunch and Learn Series
