Description:
Biotechnology and computer science are converging to accelerate innovation. To best prepare students to enter the biotechnology workforce and translational research labs, Professors Naomi Levy-Strumpf, Alice Gao, and David Liu are leading the development of scaffolded e-learning modules that introduce life science students to computer science applications in healthcare and the foundational concepts underlying these technologies. In Winter 2024, we deployed our first set of modules in HMB201 to 120 students. This year, we are working to revise these modules based on feedback we collected from students, teaching assistants and industry partners and are developing a second set of modules for a third-year follow up course, HMB301. In this presentation, we will share the process we used in developing the modules, reflections on the successes and challenges we faced and feedback we received, and our future plans.
