Student Advising with Podcasts: Successes and Lessons Learned
Presenters: Mario Badr (Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream) and Diane Horton (Professor, Teaching Stream), Department of Computer Science
This year, we experimented with a new medium for student advising: a podcast! Our podcast touches on topics like “How do I find a research opportunity?” and “What is Data Science?” By using a podcast, we were able to interview faculty and our own students so that they can share their experiences, anecdotes, and advice on topics of interest to our undergrads. In this presentation, we describe what we learned from developing a podcast from scratch, and what our plans are moving forward.
EDIIA Program Environmental Scan & Methods of Curriculum Enhancement
Presenters: Michelle Arnot (Professor, Teaching Stream; Associate Chair, Undergraduate Education, Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology)
and Jasty Singh (Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream; Associate Chair, Undergraduate Studies, Department of Immunology)
Over the summer the Departments of Pharmacology & Toxicology and Immunology completed environmental scans of EDIIA topics and discussions across Departmental courses. The environmental scan used input from course coordinators/lecture notes/ EDIIA research associate and students in the program. The goal of the project is to better understand what EDIAA topics are covered and enhance in areas and courses where applicable. Project outcomes include an EDIIA curriculum map, instructor guide and resources, supportive content, reference list for the holistic integration of EDIIA across program curricula. We will discuss the model of our approach, lessons learned and project outcomes.
