Quercus Course Reviews

The CTSI Quercus Course Review (QCR) service provides instructors with formative feedback on how they use Quercus in their courses to support teaching and learning.

At an instructor’s request, a CTSI Faculty Liaison and/or a divisional educational developer/technologist will provide observations about how Quercus is used in a specific course and considerations to enhance future course design and pedagogical practices. The QCR service best meets the needs of instructors who have used Quercus before and are now looking for more ideas on how to align their Quercus use with their teaching and learning goals.

The QCR process occurs in three stages over three to four weeks:

  1. Pre-Review Meeting: The instructor and reviewer(s) meet for 25 minutes to determine the focus of the review.
  2. Review: The reviewer(s) spend 60 minutes reviewing the instructor’s Quercus course.
  3. Post-Review Meeting: The instructor and reviewer(s) meet for 50 minutes to discuss observations and identify next steps.

To ensure that we are able to provide meaningful observations, your Quercus course should be “student-ready” at the time of review.

Please note:

  • A QCR is not an observation of a synchronous class session. If this is of interest to you, learn more about requesting a Teaching Observation.
  • A QCR is not a technical help session. For urgent issues and/or technical support related to Quercus and the Academic Toolbox, we encourage you to contact your divisional educational technology support team or q.help@utoronto.ca for assistance.
  • Academic units cannot request a QCR as part of a summative teaching evaluation process.
  • CTSI will not review Quercus courses as a formal part of a tenure or continuing status review nor as part of a job application process.
  • Given the time-intensive nature of a QCR, we ask that you submit only one request per academic year. Observations from one review will likely be applicable to other courses you teach. Should a new need emerge, you are welcome to submit an additional request for a different course offering to be scheduled at a later time.
  • The QCR service is designed to support academic courses in ROSI.
