Themed Workshop Requests
Generative AI or Universal Design for Learning
In the 2024-25 academic year CTSI is accepting requests from departments and divisions for locally-delivered CTSI-facilitated sessions focused on either of two high-priority areas:
Generative Artificial Intelligence (generative AI)
- Topic 1: Introduction to Generative AI: Implications for Teaching and Learning
- Topic 2: Revisiting Learning Outcomes in the Age of Generative AI
- Topic 3: Assessment Design in the Age of Generative AI
- Topic 4: Orientation to Microsoft Copilot: Practical Applications for Teaching and Learning
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Topic 1: Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Scaffolding Accessible and Inclusive Teaching and Learning
- Topic 2: Implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL): From Theory to Practice Within and Beyond the Classroom
These sessions are intended to offer opportunities to instructors to learn together in the contexts where they teach. At a unit’s/division’s request, a CTSI facilitation team will deliver one of the following options on the priority area of choice:
OPTION 1: One-Hour Webinar
This synchronous online option offers a general information session to introduce instructors to essential considerations and key information. There will be some interaction and a question-and-answer period. (Note: one-hour sessions are online only.)
OPTION 2: Two-Hour Interactive Workshop
This option can be delivered online or in person. This option offers more in-depth information and asks participants to engage in hands-on activities and discussion. (Note: two-hour workshops can be in-person or online.)
What’s involved
In planning and delivering these sessions, CTSI facilitators will:
- Work with a local contact or team in the department/division to ensure the webinar/workshop is relevant for the teaching context
- Connect the local contact with existing resources prior to planning the requested session
- Hold a 30-minute planning meeting to discuss and finalize the session details
- Lead the actual session
- OPTIONAL: at the department’s/division’s request, CTSI can also
- manage the registration process for the offering through our online event management system, EVE
- administer a post-session evaluation to gather feedback from participants – this information will be shared with the department/division
- offer to hold a 30-minute follow-up conversation to debrief the session if desired
Lead time
- Webinars – CTSI requires a minimum of 1 month’s notice to arrange a one-hour webinar.
- Workshops – CTSI requires a minimum of 2 months’ notice to effectively plan the interactive workshop.
How to book
Departments/divisions interested in booking a webinar or workshop are asked to complete the relevant online form (see below). Only offerings requested via the online form will be considered.
Themed Workshop Request Form – Generative AI
Themed Workshop Request Form – Universal Design for Learning
Before completing the form, departments/divisions should have the following information at the ready:
- The rationale for offering this local webinar/workshop and the context around the request.
- The contact information for the faculty member or staff person who will be the chief point of contact for the offering.
- The choice of: priority area (generative AI or UDL), modality (online or in person), format (1-hour webinar or 2-hour workshop) for the offering.
- The contact information for an instructor who is willing to act as a liaison with CTSI to provide insights into the local teaching context and/or share ideas and examples with the facilitators that can help customize the session to the department/division. Note: this person may or may not be the same as the chief contact for the offering.
- For in-person workshop requests, confirmation that at least 15 participants will be able to attend.
NOTE: To help manage CTSI’s capacity to offer as many of these themed sessions as possible across the University, departments/divisions are asked to select ONE priority area only in this academic year.
